Join us at Cork Library to celebrate Irish women's stories

We are so excited to announce that Úna Gan a Gúna is hosting another event! Ó Ghlúin go Glúin: A Celebration’ will be taking place at Cork City Library on Saturday 16 August, 2025 - join us to hear and recognise the stories of Irish women born in the twentieth century!

This event will celebrate the stories of Irish women we’ve collected as part of our ‘Ó Ghlúin go Glúin’ project. Funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs Emigrant Support Programme, this one-year project has connected young women to their Irish elders to record and preserve their stories as oral history interviews. We’ve spoken to a wide range of Irish elders about their experiences as young women in mid-twentieth century Ireland or as Irish emigrants abroad in that period.

Sharing and celebrating these stories ensures that the experiences of women with connections to Ireland are preserved for the historical record rather than forgotten and enables a younger generation of Irish women to benefit from the stories and solidarity of their elders.

At the event, we’ll be listening to snippets from the interviews we’ve collected so far and hearing from some of our volunteer interviewers.

We welcome anyone with an interest in Irish, women’s or oral history to attend!
